Minuwangoda town is the main town of Minuwangoda area which has a very long historical background.
The Minuwangoda Municipal Council, which has spread its jurisdiction from the center of Minuwangoda city, covers an area of 4.4 square kilometers and consists of 6 Grama Niladhari divisions.
Total population is 8576 and 2033 families. Minuwangoda is a very busy city as it is the last and first city to meet when entering and leaving the Bandaranaike International Airport, so our municipality has a great responsibility in playing a special role.
The Municipal Council provides its contribution in various tasks from the birth to the death of the public, and the Municipal Council can be known as the institution that provides the closest and most essential services to the general public. Our institution spends most of the self-generated income to provide services including development of access roads and side roads, installation of street lamps, solid waste management, libraries, pre-childhood development centers, bodybuilding centers, public markets and markets, cemeteries and crematoriums, garden decoration, construction and maintenance of public toilets.
Based on the vision of "Towards a wonderful city of Minuwangoda" providing necessary facilities for local and foreign tourists traveling through Minuwangoda city, infrastructure development in the jurisdiction, health and solid waste management, maternal and child safety, etc.
Various projects are implemented by the city council to help improve the living conditions of the urban people. Funding required for this is done through assessment and trade revenue as well as identification and launch of new revenue generating projects.
Focusing on the citizens living within the city limits and for the welfare of the urban consumers who come to use the city, the primary intention of our city council is to establish, control and optimize public-friendly, environment-friendly and effective projects with legal existence within the jurisdiction of the municipality by using all the resources of the municipality in an efficient manner.

Geographical Location
The area of authority of the Minuwangoda Urban Council located within the Minuwangoda electorate in the Dasiya Pattu in Aluthkuru Korala in the Gampaha District of the Western Province which was initially established as a town council in the year 1960 and was subsequently elevated to the status of an Urban Council in 1971 is 4.4 square kilometers. The average temperature of Minuwangoda town which is situated about 15 meters above the mean sea level is 300 Celsius. The annual rainfall ranges between 200-225 inches. The total extent of the UC area is 400 hectares and residential percentage is approximately 60%. The Council also has paddy fields covering 20% of the land and several commercial industries, public sector institutions, parks, playgrounds and roads as well as small areas of coconut and rubber cultivations are also located in the area at present.
The main international airport of the island is just 20 kilometers away from the Minuwangoda town which is the centre of a major road network with roads eading to five directions. Three major highways, i.e the Kandy - Airport road, Colombo-Kurunegala road and Gampaha - Negambo road run across the town.

Purposes:
- To make Minuwangoda a wonder urban area by streamlining, controlling all matters of public roads, health and public utilities and waste management requirements within the urban jurisdiction, and protecting and enhancing the welfare, comfort and welfare of the people.
- Ensuring the security of all assets, including the properties that are in an informal state owned by the Minuwangoda Urban Council, and developing them to a level that can generate income through proper management and creating a self-generating economy for the Minuwangoda Urban Council.
